EXTRA HANDS
Serving East York and surrounding areas
Care Collective
Our Approach & Standards
At Extra Hands Care Collective, we believe that meaningful support begins with trust, respect, and genuine human connection.
While our services are non-medical and non-clinical, we hold ourselves to high standards. Every companion who works with EHCC is carefully selected and is expected to provide care that reflects our values of dignity, professionalism, reliability, and person-centred support.
Our Approach to Care
Every person, family, and household is different. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, companions are encouraged to build supportive relationships while respecting each client's preferences, routines, and independence.
Our shared standards include:
-
Respect for autonomy and personal choice
-
Clear communication and informed consent
-
Emotional and physical safety
-
Professional boundaries
-
Reliability and consistency
-
Compassion without judgment
Preparation & Professional Expectations
Companions who work with EHCC are expected to demonstrate the knowledge and professionalism needed to provide safe, respectful support.
Before accepting assignments, companions receive an orientation to EHCC's services, values, expectations, and scope of practice. Depending on the services they provide, they may also complete additional learning or hold relevant certifications such as CPR and First Aid.
Topics include:
-
Professional boundaries and ethics
-
Privacy and confidentiality
-
Safety and risk awareness
-
Effective communication
-
Understanding EHCC's service scope and limitations
Service-Specific Guidance
Different services require different skills. Companions are provided with guidance and resources relevant to the work they choose to offer, such as:
-
Relationship-based childcare
-
Dementia-informed companion support
-
Safe assistance with everyday household tasks
-
Community outings and transportation support
Ongoing Collaboration
Although companions operate as independent contractors, we believe that excellent care grows through communication and reflection.
EHCC remains available to answer questions, discuss situations, and provide guidance that supports consistency with our values and service standards. We also encourage continued professional learning as companions gain experience.
Our Scope
Extra Hands Care Collective provides non-medical, non-clinical support.
Our companions do not provide medical treatment, administer medication, perform skilled trades or home repairs, manage finances, or make legal or healthcare decisions on behalf of clients.
When needs extend beyond our scope, we believe in being honest about those limits and helping families identify appropriate resources whenever possible.
Care That Feels Human
Our goal is to connect people with compassionate companions who are dependable, thoughtful, and committed to helping others live fuller, more connected lives.
We believe the best care is about helping people feel seen, respected, and supported.
